Lucknow: University of Lucknow will host a two-day national conference titled GeoCon-2026 on March 13–14, 2026, focusing on the theme “Geoscience and Climate Change for a Sustainable Environment.” The conference is being organised by the university’s Department of Geology.
The inaugural session will be held on March 13 at the Malviya Hall, bringing together leading scientists and academicians from across the country. Prominent participants will include T. N. Singh, Director of Indian Institute of Technology Patna; V. M. Tiwari, Director of CSIR–North East Institute of Science and Technology, Jorhat; and Sunil Kumar Singh, Director of CSIR–National Institute of Oceanography, Goa.
Other distinguished attendees include Dheeraj Pandey, Director of Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research, Hyderabad; N. V. Chalapathi Rao, Director of National Centre for Earth Science Studies, Thiruvananthapuram; and A. C. Pandey, Director of Inter-University Accelerator Centre, New Delhi.
The conference will feature keynote lectures, invited talks and multiple technical sessions covering subjects such as climate change, sustainable resource management, Himalayan geology, groundwater studies, crustal evolution and modern geoscience technologies. More than 100 research papers are expected to be presented by scientists, academicians and research scholars from institutions across India.

Participants from 29 universities and nearly 20 major national research institutes are likely to attend the conference. Scientists from institutions such as the Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeosciences, Geological Survey of India and Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology will also take part.
According to Dhruv Sen Singh, Head of the Department of Geology at Lucknow University and convener of the conference, GeoCon-2026 aims to provide a collaborative platform for scientists, academicians and young researchers to discuss recent developments in geoscience and address pressing issues related to climate change and sustainable environmental management.
He added that the conference is expected to strengthen scientific dialogue and encourage collaborative research to tackle contemporary environmental and resource challenges.
